I remarked before that I'm not really a history buff. But the Battle Road Trail was so interesting to me. On the night of April 19, 1775, British troops began a march at midnight which would lead them from Boston, across the Charles River ("Two if by sea"), and down the road to Concord. Sis and I walked part of that trail and I imagined what that night and day might have been like for the British and for the militia. The British troops were following orders to seize the stockpile of weapons and explosives they believed to be stored in Concord. They marched from Boston to Concord while Paul Revere ran on ahead.
I was always under the impression that the British were sitting ducks as they marched four abreast down the road. But the reality is that the militia was shooting from about 100 yards away and only 1 out of 300 shots even hit their mark. While we did lots of other things in Boston, that was one of the highlights for me as the Revolutionary War came alive as we walked. Many people miss this, perhaps because it's easiest to do with a car. But there's also a tour that takes you along the Battle Road. If you go to Boston, don't miss this!
