Otavalo Market

(Otavalo Market outside Quito)

Dad wasn't feeling well when we arrived in Quito, but as my dad is always healthy, I knew it would pass quickly. Unfortunately, that's the one thing that did not happen. After days of carefully not eating the fruits and veg, hoping to not get sick, he was passing...nothing!

When I woke up on Saturday morning, and he said he wasn't going with us, I was stunned. Dad has never, as long as I can remember, had a sick day. Well, with the exception of his knee surgery. Anyway...

He told us to go on without him. I resisted, but he insisted, and we left without him at 6:30am for Otavalo. We went to a market where I bought 6 purses, as if I needed more. But they were so cheap. They're woven and I used one almost as soon as I got it. I bought a shawl. We also bought fruits and veg, and I got three pineapples for Dad for $1, hoping that might help move things along. We got a whole sack of passion fruit for $1. I LOVE passion fruit. I was introduced to a fruit I'd never seen(below). They call it "Tree Tomato" because it tastes vaguely like a tomato and grows on a tree.

I wonder if we can get tree tomatoes here in Russia. I often see something that looks like rotting tomatoes. I've wondered why the tomatoes look like that.
